Parents always want to provide food with good nutrition for their kids, but most often parents are forcing their children to eat foods that usually they do not like. Parent would give the usual kid-friendly food items like soda, juices, chicken nuggets, french fries, pizza, and hot dogs. But it would be much better if parents teach their children to avoid food items that are high in calories and fat.
There are a lot of food items that are healthy for children, for example milk. Milk is a very good source of protein, vitamin C, and calcium. Milk must be part of your children’s diet unless of course, your children have milk allergies. For those children who do not like milk, you can always choose yogurt as an alternative source of calcium.
Some yogurts have live active cultures without added sugar and have low fat content. Other yogurt products have probiotics. You can always go for apples as food snack. Apples are very sweet, juicy, and high in vitamin C. An apple is very high in fiber. An unpeeled apple contains five grams of fiber.
Fish is very good for kids. It is a good source of essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, omega three, and protein. For example, you can provide two servings of canned tuna or albacore tuna. Or you can always go for even healthier food item like tuna fish sandwich, added with low fat mayonnaise and whole wheat bread.
If you want to give your children a healthy breakfast, you had better go for the best breakfast cereal. Choose those cereals that are calcium fortified, with added fiber, iron, whole grain and other important vitamins and minerals. Add some fruits such as strawberries in their bowl of cereals, or bananas. You may also give your children eggs for breakfast for additional protein.
You do not need to push your children to eat vegetables such as broccoli. There are several healthy vegetables that children love like baked potatoes, peas, cooked corn, and carrots which are good sources of potassium, vitamin C, vitamin, and fiber. Make sure that at early age, you introduce vegetables in their diet. Start with small amounts of servings to moderate servings of green vegetables.
Parents can read a lot of books about proper nutrition and diets that are especially designed for children. You can search on the internet and browse new information for healthy lifestyle for kids. But it is always better to talk to your pediatrician about some issues because they are the experts when it comes to children and they might give you very good advices and recommendations.
